About Us

Gail Snyders is the president and founder of the Bevy of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. A two-time survivor of breast cancer, Gail founded the Foundation following her first journey into the world of breast cancer in 1996. For Gail it was a life changing experience:

"I was shocked to see women dying from this disease. The treatments seemed barbaric. I resolved that after my treatments were finished I would raise money for breast cancer research. I started fundraising in 1997".

Gail started fundraising in 1997 and founded the Bevy of Hope Foundation four years later. In 2001, the National Council of the Canadian Cancer Society recognized Gail's "significant contribution" in funding breast cancer research by honouring her with their prestigious "Special Recognition Award". In 2001 and again in 2010 the City of Pickering honoured her with their "Volunteer of the Year" award for her work in enhancing community healthcare.

Today, the Foundation has more than 100 volunteers in the Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa area carrying out its mission to improve the quality of life of people living with breast cancer.

A Little Note from President Gail Snyders

When we share our fears and hopes with someone who understands, we gain strength and courage. Life is full of ups and downs. We all need someone who will listen to our darkest fears. Champion us in our struggle to go on. Tears, laughter, and bonding together get us through the dark times. Through sharing experiences and personal knowledge, we hope that we can help lighten your cancer journey.

Our volunteers are wonderful, warm, caring people. They make anyone's day brighter. You can always count on them to be there when you need them. Year after year, they pitch in to help, sometimes working under stressful conditions. They are the backbone and the beauty of our Foundation. Our generous donors are the behind-the-scenes helpers in our work. They are an integral part of our success. We are sincerely grateful for their support and have acknowledged their names under "Friends of the Foundation".

A Little Note from Petra Balden, Breast Cancer Survivor

My first experience with Gail Snyders and the Bevy of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation came as a volunteer almost 10 years ago. I met Gail at one of her sales events where she and the volunteers were busy selling raffle tickets, with all proceeds to help with the fight against breast cancer. Little did I know that I was going to be given a breast cancer life experience in 2009.

Bevy of Hope was a huge support group for me while going through my treatments. It was so much easier to talk to women that had been through the same illness, share their personal experiences with me and support me throughout my journey.

I'm happy to say that I'm also a survivor but I am not sure where I would have been without this fabulous organization. My thanks to Gail for starting this foundation and for the time she dedicates to organize the annual fundraiser -- and all the work it involves throughout the year.
